What a credit report actually contains

Your credit score is a single number, but lenders do not decide on the number alone — they read the report behind it. That report holds four kinds of information, and an error in any of them can cost you an approval or push up the rate you are offered.

SectionWhat it holdsWhat commonly goes wrong
Personal information Name, date of birth, PAN, addresses, employment Someone else's account attached to your PAN because of a name or address match
Account information Every loan and card, its limit, balance and 36-month payment record Loans you closed still showing a balance; accounts marked settled or written off when you paid in full; the same loan reported twice
Enquiry information Every lender who checked your report because you applied Enquiries from applications you never made
Employment and summary Reported income details and totals Outdated figures that misrepresent your capacity to repay

The two services, and which one you need

These are different pieces of work and it is worth being clear about which solves your problem.

  • Credit Report Analysis is diagnostic. We read the full report the way an underwriter does and tell you exactly what is holding you back — which entries are wrong, which are accurate but damaging, how your utilisation and enquiry pattern read to a lender, and what to fix first. If you do not know why you were declined, start here.
  • Dispute Resolution is corrective. Where an entry is factually wrong, we raise and pursue the dispute with the credit bureau and the lender that reported it, and follow it through the process until it is corrected or formally rejected with a reason.

How a dispute actually works

The process is defined by regulation, not by us, and it is useful to know the shape of it before you begin:

  1. The entry is identified — the specific account, the specific field, and what the correct position is.
  2. The dispute is raised with the bureau holding the report, supported by whatever proves the correct position: a no-dues certificate, a closure letter, a bank statement, a settlement receipt.
  3. The bureau refers it to the lender that reported the information. The lender, not the bureau, decides whether the entry stands.
  4. The bureau responds, generally within about 30 days of a complete submission. The entry is corrected, or it is upheld with a reason.
  5. The report is re-checked to confirm the correction actually appears, because a resolved dispute is not the same as a corrected report.

Where an entry is upheld and you still disagree, the escalation path runs to the bureau's grievance officer and then to the RBI Ombudsman scheme. Documentary evidence decides these cases; assertion does not.

What can be corrected — and what cannot

This is the part the industry tends to skip. Being direct about it is more useful to you than a promise we could not keep.

DisputableNot disputable
An account that is not yours A default that genuinely happened
A closed loan still showing an outstanding balance A payment that was genuinely late, correctly recorded
An account marked settled or written off when it was paid in full A settlement you actually agreed to with the lender
The same loan reported twice by two lenders High utilisation that is accurately reported
Enquiries from applications you never made Enquiries from applications you did make
Wrong personal details, or another person's account on your PAN The passage of time — accurate records stay for years

No one can remove accurate negative information from a credit report. Any service that offers to is either misleading you or intending to file a false dispute in your name. Where the record is accurate, the honest route is different: reduce utilisation, keep every instalment on time, stop applying for a while, and let the older damage age. That takes months, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a dispute that will be rejected.

Before you apply for a loan

The sequence matters more than most borrowers realise. Every application you make puts a hard enquiry on your report, and several in quick succession make each subsequent one harder to approve. Reading the report first, correcting what is wrong, and then applying once to a lender whose criteria you meet is a materially better strategy than applying repeatedly and hoping.

If you are working towards a specific loan, the EMI calculator will show what the rate difference actually costs you over the full term — on a home loan that gap runs to lakhs, which is usually more than the cost of getting the report right first.

Your credit score is free from CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark. We do not sell you the score — we work on what sits behind it.

Credit Analysis & Dispute FAQs

No, and neither can anyone else. Accurate information stays on the report for years, and any service claiming otherwise is either misleading you or intends to file a false dispute in your name. What we can correct is information that is factually wrong. Where the record is accurate, the route is to reduce utilisation, keep every instalment on time, pause new applications and let the older damage age.

A bureau generally responds within about 30 days of a complete submission. The bureau refers the dispute to the lender that reported the entry, and it is the lender that decides whether it stands. If it is upheld and you still disagree, the escalation path runs to the bureau's grievance officer and then to the RBI Ombudsman scheme.

No. Checking your own report is a soft enquiry and has no effect on your score, however often you do it. A hard enquiry is recorded when a lender checks your report because you applied for credit, and several of those in a short period can lower your score.

Yes, if you paid in full then a settled marking is factually wrong and is one of the most common correctable errors. It matters because lenders read settled as a loss taken on your account. The dispute needs evidence of the correct position, such as a no-dues certificate, a closure letter or the final payment record.

Yes. Every application places a hard enquiry on your report, and several in quick succession make each subsequent one harder to approve. Reading the report first, correcting what is wrong, then applying once to a lender whose criteria you meet is materially better than applying repeatedly and hoping one says yes.
